Hebrides 1: Mingulay, Vatersay, Barra & Eriskay

I recently went on holiday for 3 weeks to the Outer Hebrides, a string of islands off the west coast of Scotland. I travelled from Mingulay at the south, to the Butt of Lewis at the north, a journey of 180 miles of winding, beautiful scenery. As well as visiting as many of the islands as possible, I wanted to use the time simply to enjoy my own company by camping in remote locations, away from settlements.

My journey began with the rocky, uninhabited island of Mingulay, and then the white sand beaches of Vatersay and Barra. Barra in particular left its mark on me – the beaches are bigger and more beautiful than you can possibly imagine.
